FAQs
Q: I'd like to go salsa dancing, but don't know how to do it. Do salsa clubs have beginner salsa lessons?A: Most places have beginner salsa lessons, and even some intermediate lessons. Always check the club info beforehand for class times.
Q: Do I need to bring a partner to classes or meetup events?A: Absolutely no partners required! Most classes rotate partners, and no partners are needed in the salsa scene. That is what social dancing is all about.
Q: What are rueda classes?A: It is salsa danced in a circle. You are constantly rotating partners. It is a great way to meet more people and expand your dancing circle. Many club nights or events offer rueda classes before the night starts these days. Some rueda groups also have practices and put up info on the message board, so feel free to check it out.
Q: What is the difference between Salsa "On 1" and "On 2"?A: The change is not in the timing of the music. The difference lies in the break, or what count the dancer steps forward or back on. This can be explained in a class.
Meanwhile, most people in Boston know how to dance both on 1 and on 2 these days. Our recommendation is to have an open mind and eventually know both so you don't limit your dance partners. You may find that you have a preference for one of the two as you go along, but versatility will only add to your dancing. :)
Q: What are the regular night spots?A: See our
Weekly Clubs page. For more listings, feel free to visit the
SalsaBoston and
Boston Salsa Scene sites.
Q: Can you recommend any salsa classes to me?A: Check out the
Salsa Classes page for more info.
